Conditions treated with hip replacement
Our hip surgeons use hip replacement surgery to treat broken hips, tumors and different forms of hip joint degeneration, such as:
- Avascular necrosis (AVN)
- Osteoarthritis
- Post-traumatic arthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
Advanced surgical care for chronic hip pain
Our specialized orthopedics hospital has been regularly recognized for providing the highest levels of surgical joint care. To maintain this standard of excellence, we continue to evolve with the latest medical advancements, including both hip replacements and hip resurfacing surgery, a combination of hip preservation and arthroplasty.
Total hip replacement surgery
During total hip replacement surgery, worn bone, cartilage and soft tissues are removed, and medical-grade implants are used to replace them. This procedure is one of the most common types of orthopedic surgeries, and can be completed through a posterior (back) or anterior (front) approach. The posterior method enables us to access the hip joint on the side and slightly behind the joint. With an anterior approach, your surgeon will make an incision in the front of the upper hip. We will counsel you on the possible benefits of each type of procedure.
If you have experienced a substantial trauma, or undergone a prior surgery, conventional techniques may not be feasible for you. As an alternative, our physicians will use in-field computer navigation and customized cutting blocks to achieve the best possible surgical outcome. During computer-assisted surgery, using in-field navigation and cutting blocks helps us precisely position your implant and align the hip joint. When possible, our surgeons also use minimally invasive techniques, which can result in a faster, more comfortable recovery.
Candidacy for hip replacement surgery
You may be a candidate for hip replacement surgery if you walk with a limp, experience joint discomfort or find the following activities difficult:
- Getting in or out of vehicles
- Going up and down stairs
- Sitting down or standing up
Hip preservation treatment
If you are younger or living a more active lifestyle, hip preservation treatment can prevent the need for future joint replacements. The physicians at our facility are highly skilled in hip preservation techniques for both adolescents and adults, including hip arthroscopic surgery.
